Dear President Scott Hovsepian,

We won the Brewster Academy pay case!

The Appeals Court reversed the Superior Court.

The court recognized the artifice that Brewster created to get around the law that requires recruits in the academy to be paid what amounts to the lowest wage in the CBA for that city/town.

We previously, in Foxboro, got the Appeals Court also to reverse the Superior Court and clearly state that a town can’t manipulate to avoid this law.

The Superior Court will have to assess treble damages against the Town and also attorneys’ fees. The nice part about the attorneys’ fees is that they are set not at what we charge but what lawyers of comparable skill and ability receive from people with money, probably in the $400-$500 per hour range.

Without MassCOP’s support throughout this long process, we could never have won this case.
