from Home Base

Each year, Home Base No Shave brings together first responders and community members to raise considerable awareness on these invisible wounds, and funds to pay for the critical care needed to treat these wounded veterans and their families. As we come into our 10th year of No Shave, we are launching Save a Life September which aims to provide critical support and resources for First Responders, Veterans, Service Members, Families of the Fallen and their families.  This initiative expands on our previous years No Shave efforts to provide more encompassing focus on suicide awareness and prevention and provide wellness, education based and community events for our First Responders who serve and protect us.

Home Base, which is 85% philanthropically funded, relies heavily on support from a Grateful Nation, including donors, corporations, foundations, individuals, and community partners. Our 2024 fundraising goal for this initiative is $250,000.:

During Save a Life September, “lifesavers” are encouraged to work within their communities to increase awareness and support for Military-connected and first responder suicide prevention by participating in key events, creating their own initiatives, and supporting our cause – to save lives.

First responders and veterans face unique challenges such as PTSD, stress-related disorders, and difficulties transitioning to civilian life. These issues not only affect their well-being but also impact their families and communities. There is a critical need for specialized support services that address these challenges comprehensively and effectively.

Home Base offers a multifaceted approach to support through the following core programs:

  1. Wellness Programming:
    1. Workshops and training sessions focused on stress management, resilience building, and emotional well-being.
  1. Adventure Series:
    1. Outdoor adventure and recreational activities as therapeutic interventions.
    2. Wilderness retreats, team-building exercises, and skill-building workshops.
    3. Participants can enjoy activities such as skiing, skating, museum visits, and sporting events.
    4. Opportunities for participants to engage in activities that promote physical health, camaraderie, and personal growth.

Home Base aims to make a profound impact on the lives of first responders and veterans by:

  • Reducing rates of PTSD, depression, and suicide.
  • Strengthening family units and support networks.
  • Empowering with resilience and leadership skills.
  • Providing meaningful and therapeutic experiences through adventure programming.
