Dear Members,

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of Attorney Joseph G. Sandulli, who lost his courageous battle with cancer earlier this week. For those of you who didn’t have the pleasure of knowing Joe, he was a great friend and a spectacular attorney. Please allow me to share a little history about Joe and how he got started and became such a huge fixture in MassCOP.

Joseph G. Sandulli studied at the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He graduated in 1969. After passing the bar exam, he was admitted to legal practice in 1970. Joseph G. Sandulli founded what would later become Sandulli Grace, P.C., after opening his own law practice on Mt. Vernon Street in Boston, MA. Joe was selected to Super Lawyers in 2005 through 2020. Joe Sandulli was at the forefront of forming what has now grown to be the largest law enforcement union in Massachusetts and New England, our very own Massachusetts Coalition of Police (MassCOP.). Organized in 1979 with just five local police departments in the Worcester area, MassCOP now consists of over 4,500 members with Locals in over a 173 cities and towns in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Joe Sandulli was truly a pioneer in public sector union-side labor law and has been a friend and integral part of our organization from its inception, over 42 years ago.

Sandulli Grace has always been MassCOP’s primary law firm, and for several of our members, and particularly our Executive Board members who work hand in hand with the firm’s attorneys, they have become a part of our police family. Losing Joe has hit home for all of us and celebrating and honoring his accomplishments is of paramount importance to us and our organization as a whole. Without Joe, and Sandulli Grace, MassCOP would simply not be what it is today. WE would not be who we are today, the strongest and largest union with the finest representation in the state.

So please join me in remembering Joe and celebrating his life, his dedication to labor and employment law, and to MassCOP. We will be forever grateful for all he has contributed and accomplished. It was an honorto have known him, not just as a colleague, but as a friend. He will be greatly missed.

Sincerely,

Scott Hovsepian
