Law Enforcement Appreciation Night

Thank you to the Boston Red Sox and the great crowd at Fenway Park on Sunday, April 6 for making Law Enforcement Appreciation Night such a memorable evening!

The Massachusetts Coalition of Police was honored to have MassCOP President Scott Hovsepian participate as the Red Sox and more than 36,000 fans recognized the heroic service of two of our colleagues: Former Berlin Police Officer Molly Plante and recently retired Braintree Police Officer William Cushing.

Officer Plante risked her life in April 2023 to rescue a woman from the debris of an exploded house in Berlin, MA. She was awarded the George L. Hannah Medal of Valor, and continues her law enforcement career today as an Officer for the Framingham Police Department.

Officer Cushing was recognized many times over the 12-year period during which he and his canine partner, K9 Officer Kit, successfully tracked suspects and criminals to make arrests and help solve cases. Both Officer Cushing and K9 Officer Kit were hit and injured by gunfire in June 2021 while responding to a call. K9 Officer Kit later died.

Law Enforcement Appreciation Night Activities:

Officers Cushing and Plante participated in the ceremonial First Pitch at Law Enforcement Appreciation Night at Fenway, while Cushing’s two children made the official “Play Ball” call. President Hovsepian was joined at the game by First Vice President John Nelson and many other MassCOP officials and members as the Red Sox honored these and other law enforcement heroes.

The Boston Red Sox also recognized the Massachusetts Coalition of Police and MassCOP President Scott Hovsepian, as well as other law enforcement organizations.
