Hovsepian: THE FIGHT CONTINUES!!

By July 22, 2020July 30th, 2021MassCOP and Police Reform

Dear MassCOP Members,

H-4860 was released on Monday.  While the Bill has a few points that appear better than the Senate Bill, there are still so many unacceptable aspects that there is literally no difference.  MassCOP and the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Policy Group have filed amendments to H-4860.

Below is the list of amendments that MassCOP is asking for you, family, and friends to support.  I know everyone is mentally and physically tired about how we are being treated. The House of Representatives  HAVE  to  hear  from  us  that  their  knee-jerk  legislation  is  going  to  permanently damage law enforcement, which will have a disastrous effect on our communities. These changes that are being proposed are going to eliminate due process, eliminate collective bargaining rights, severely limit appropriate uses of force that are needed to ensure safety, limits your qualified immunity, and creates a majority non-Law Enforcement Commission to set policing, certification, and de- certification policy and decisions.

This list is not exhaustive, and we continue to examine other amendments for issues that we think are important to our members.

I can’t thank everyone enough for all of the hard work and dedication that you have shown throughout this process, but please know that the people and organizations that are aiming to destroy our profession are working tirelessly as well. We have to work just a little bit harder than them.

In Solidarity,

Scott A. Hovsepian
